With a sound that can be described as fresh, raw and vivid; songwriting that is at once spiritual, inspirational and thoughtful, The Contact have carved a space for themselves in Canada’s competitive music scene. Praised by critics and fans alike, The Contact blend influences from U2 to Coldplay and Delirious?, with breathtaking vocals and potent melodies that capture you from the first listen.
By blending simple rock melodies with modern artistic expression, The Contact is exploring new ways of connecting with their audiences. The Contact offers music that challenges their listeners and causes audiences to think about issues beyond themselves.
"As our world searches for someone to believe in, some cause to fight for, to make sense of this mess we call life, we're asking the same questions," comments lead singer Geoff Fifield. "We're searching for the same answers and expressing some of our own discoveries.” This quest for knowledge and truth has been the motivation that leads The Contact on a journey of musical and personal evolution.
The Contact was formed in late 2000 when drummer Mark Bergman, keyboard player Jordan Allen and guitarist Tim Fifield, who had been in a previous band together, approached Geoff with the intent of taking their passion for musical expression to the next level. They were later joined by Kamal Sampara on bass guitar.
After exploring the realm of a more electronic sound, the band re-evaluated what they defined as rock and roll and made the shift towards raw, organic music. "Our sound has definitely undergone a progressive journey," comments Jordan. "Our early days saw industrial rock beats merging with energetic guitars and keys. Over the last couple of years, we have developed more stripped down songs that reveal a natural beauty behind our music. It's a balancing act; blending crunching rock with soothing atmospheric tones."
After winning the COCA Eastern battle of the bands in 2004 and showcasing at the National Conference the band embarked on their first serious tour supporting Canadian Rockers The Trews. The experience gained on the road has carried forward and has seen an extensive series of live performances across the Country including a slot in The Franklin Graham Festival with Jars Of Clay and Tree 63 as well as support shows with Big Daddy Weave, Zoe Girl, Pilate, Carried Away and Crush. The Billy Graham Association has used the band on several occasions around the Country. Says Kirk Bartha of the Billy Graham Association “The Halifax band playing throughout the night (www.thecontact.ca) were a humble band of brothers playing full out to and for Jesus, absolutely devoted to his will for St. John’s. Last year, the band won a major battle of the bands in Atlantic Canada. They are the only guys I know who can pull off Delirious in the spirit and power of Delirious. Two hours of heaven on earth. I’m sure we’ll be hearing The Contact’s own music on Canadian music charts soon enough. They are on trajectory for huge success – humbly serving and obedient to Christ.”
With the summer 2005 release of “Paralyzed From The Soul Up” the follow up to their ECMA nominated debut EP, a nomination for Rock Album of the year at the 2005 Covenant Awards and a full National tour from coast to coast planned for the fall, The Contact is poised to spread their word across the Country.
